Corrie Adamson admits her virginity on The Bachelor

I’ve never been fond of dating shows like the The Bachelor and have not followed the tv series in a long time. But recently I heard a rumour that one of the final five ladies, Corrie Adamson, admitted to being a virgin and was promptly rejected. Doubting the validity of this I decided to look into it myself and found the following on an A&E blog:

Note to future suitors on The Bachelor: if you wish to win over a man shallow enough to look for love on reality TV, you might not wanna tell him you’re saving your precious flower for marriage.

Corrie Adamson learned this the hard way when the Birmingham, Alabama native revealed to Jake Pavelka that she was a virgin… and was promptly cut from the show.

My first thought was: “…What? Really?” After further digging it looks as if it did not happen exactly how it was outlined above. A recent interview with Corrie posted on People Magazine talks about whether or not she regretted admitting her virginity on television.

Also, after viewing a video clip of when she confided in Jake (this season’s Bachelor) he seemed to have been respectful of her decision to wait until marriage before having sex. (Clip was removed from youtube so here’s another one — an interview with ABC)

However, as noted in Corrie’s interview with People, the scene did not transpire the way it was shown on TV:

I did get upset after that conversation. It didn’t happen the way you saw it. The question came out of nowhere and caught me off guard. He’d asked if I’d ever had a one-night stand. I said no and he said, “Are you saving yourself for marriage?” It’s very personal and isn’t something I go announcing on first dates. I’m proud of it, but I didn’t feel it was the right time to have that conversation. –Corrie

Well, kudos for her confidence in the decision to wait. It’s refreshing to see a girl last up to the finals in a reality dating show without being overly aggressive.

Wow, that’s great to see…esp. on reality TV where it’s all about how who is the flashiest, sexiest and most competitive around the guy. I stopped following The Bachelor a few years ago myself. It should have been cancelled many moons ago given the track record of how long the final couples stay together.

My impression was less of respect and more of grudging acceptance. “…that’s something that is not an issue with me.” I would’ve preferred for Jake to say something more along the lines of “That is a great decision and I totally support you in it.” It’s scripted reality TV and after Mr. Mike Fleiss and Dice been through it, the final footage often bears little resemblance to the original. :)
